I read one news about the coral of the south continental shelf around Taiwan a few days ago (mainly around the island "Xiao Liu Chiu"(小琉球), "LanYu" (蘭嶼) and "PengHu" (澎湖)).
Because the large amount of driftwood and rocks (including sands) for the typhoon on 08/08 destroyed the continental, people had found a lot of coral had been died or injured lately, even the coral of two ton heavy had broken its stem and turned upside down.
But,the mainly killer for coral is not typhoon, but human beings. The industrial waste water polluted, the production of great amount air of CO2 had made the global warming and raised the temperture of the sea, the over development on the hillside and mountains had caused mudslides. These are all the main factors for causing the death or injury of coral.
I wrote a poem for the coral as the following.

We are both bizarre and fantastic.
We are both soft and hard.
Our bodies are animals,
Our actions are plants.
We are colorful palaces.
We are playgrounds for fishes.
We are restaurants for shrimps.
We are homes for crabs.
What did make us full of white hairs?
What did harden our hearts into rocks?
What did convert colorful palaces into burial graves?
It was human beings' mind.
It was the mind for making money first.
It was the mind for benefits first.
It was the mind for "myself" first.
When we disappear,
The tiny creature aroud us will disappear,
The shrimps and color fishes will disappear,
The beauty under the sea will disappear.
But,
Can white hairs and rocky hearts make their morality awake?
Or shall we have been the name existing in the history of the future?
If we want to enjoy the beauty in the sea, there are many things we should do, and the key is the mind of human beings.
I wish we can see the beautiful coral always. The coral is truly a great treasure for Taiwan.
